Taking the Test
Using scientific oxygen consumption analysis, Kevin will be able to advise you on precisely how your body burns fat and carbs so that you can train at the pace that will guarantee you the results you want. There are actually two tests – one to determine your resting metabolic rate (how your body burns calories) and one to determine your VO2 Max (how your body responds to exercise).
Resting Metabolic Rate Test
The method:
You will need to fast for at least 4 hours prior to this test. Kevin will first ensure you are relaxed and comfortable and will attach a thin fabric mask to your nose and mouth to measure your breathing. Kevin will stay with you for a few minutes to ensure you are happy and monitor initial results and then leave you to relax in private for 20/30 minutes while the test continues.
The results:
After the test Kevin will be able to provide you with a report which tells you
- How fast your metabolic rate is
- Whether you burn fat or sugar while resting
- How many calories to eat and when in order to reach your weight goals
- The time it will take you to reach your target weight
VO2 Max Test
The method:
Using the equipment most relevant to your training (e.g., treadmill if you are a runner, bike if you are a cyclist etc), Kevin will help you warm-up, attach a thin mask to your nose and mouth, ensure you are comfortable and instruct you to exercise for approximately 10 minutes while your breathing is measured.
The results:
After the test Kevin will be able to provide you with a report which tells you
- At which point you burn maximum fat
- Your ‘lactate threshold’ or race pace
- Your most effective training zones (across a range of activities if appropriate)
- Your calorific output when training
- Your VO2 max gold standard in fitness testing
- Details of weight loss/fat loss, nutrition and training strategy to achieve the results you want
